How to Apply
STEM and Thinking Research Lab is part of Cognitive Psychology at Mississippi State University.
Cognitive Psychology program is housed in Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science.
As a doctoral candidates in the STEM and Thinking lab, you will gain practical experience in cognitive psychology and cognitive science.
Members of the lab design research materials and carry out experiments and studies within the lab setting. They have the chance to learn various research methods, such as experimental and quasi-experimental studies, think-aloud protocols, and a range of data analysis techniques, including manual coding of open-ended responses and essays, descriptive and non-parametric statistics, inferential analyses.

Additionally, a Master's degree is not a prerequisite for applying to the PhD program. Candidates can also apply for our integrated program, which allows students to earn their Master's degree along the way to completing their PhD.
